Declarer play
In a trump contract
- Count your losers from the hand with the most trumps
- Think of how you can get rid of losers
- Draw trumps UNLESS:
- You need the trumps in the dummy to make some ruffs first
- You don't really have a fit (< 8 cards combined). Then it's often better to work on other suits first
- See if you can 'develop' a long suit
- This only works if you can prevent ruffs by the openents
In a NT contract:
- Count your winners (fixed tricks)
- See what will be your 'working suit'. This is the suit in which you hope to develop extra tricks
- Your 'working suit' is often the suit in which you have the most cards, or a long suit
- Try to make tricks in your 'working suit' by forcing out the high cards of the opponents
