Preemptive opening
Sometimes you want to start the bidding without having 12+ points. You can do this if you have a very good long suit. You can then open on a high level to take room away from the opponents. This is good, because it is likely that they have a lot of points.
- 3♣ 7-cards with 6-11 points
- 3♦ 77-cards with 6-11 points
- 3♥ 7-cards with 6-11 points
- 3♠ 7-cards with 6-11 points
Responding to a preemptive opening:
- Most often pass is the correct response.
- If you have a strong hand (16+) then you can possibly bid 3NT
- If you have a lot of support for your partner's suit, you can also support them to make it even harder for the opponents to interfere.
